7 March 2011 - Nikon has announced that it will begin accepting movies taken through the microscope as a new category in the 37th annual Nikon Small World Photomicrography competition.
The introduction of this category - titled Small World in Motion - encompasses any movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope. 5 May 2010 - Nikon Instruments has announced the judges for the 2010 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition. The judges are: Jeremy Kaplan, science and technology editor at Foxnews.com; Betsy Mason, science editor at Wired.com; Alison North, director of the Bio-Imaging Resource Center and assistant professor at Rockefeller University; and Shirley Owens, retired director of the Center for Advanced Microscopy at Michigan State University.
14 August 2009 - Nikon Instruments has announced the launch of the 'Identify the Image' online game, which previews the work of the Small World 2009 competition finalists.
The game offers the opportunity to interact with microscopic images of items.
It gives players a series of five images and challenges them to correctly identify each photomicrograph.
The series of images will be updated with a new set of five images daily.
The game is available on the Nikon Small World website.
