The Schott Pharmaceutical Symposium 2009, held 1 and 2 December in Mainz, Germany, featured the latest trends and prospects for primary pharmaceutical packaging.
Representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, including researchers and packaging experts, met at the symposium to discuss current market trends and prospects, material characteristics and the quality of glass.
The main focuses of the symposium were pre-filled syringes, biotechnology and the stability of medications.
Schott also introduced a new needle syringe called Injentle, which ensures medication does not come into contact with the needle or adhesive during storage.
The advantages of this design include improved stability, especially for sensitive medications; and easy, patient-friendly administration.
As part of the symposium, the participants were given the opportunity to visit the plant premises in Mainz to see a new melting tank that had just been put into operation.
