Backlogs' online-reporting service has helped the histopathology department at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds to cope with rising workloads.
Launched in 2005, Backlogs provides a rapid diagnostic-reporting service to the NHS for histopathology and cytology cases.
Cases collected by medical courier are immediately assigned, according to clinical category, to an appropriate specialist within the company's network of UK-based consultant pathologists.
They in turn report directly online so that information is available through a secure web-based system.
Consultant histopathologist Dr Sheila Purdy said: 'Backlogs proved to be totally reliable, working to extremely high standards and doing a really good job on all cases.
'We could always be certain that everything was being reported properly, and for me knowing who we were dealing with meant complete peace of mind,' she added.
Current expansion of the histopathology team at West Suffolk Hospital will mean easier management of workload using in-house resources.
However, Dr Purdy feels it is 'good to know Backlogs is there' should the need for extra cover arise in the future.
