Febit has announced that it now offers whole-genome sequencing services in Europe for a range of species.
The company has acquired two Applied Biosystems Solid high-throughput sequencing systems from Life Technologies that are necessary for whole-genome resequencing.
One of the two systems will be used within research and development, while the other is employed within Febit's Genomic Service Department.
Life Technologies is a biotechnology tools company providing systems, consumables and services for scientific researchers around the world.
According to Peer Staehler, chief scientific officer of Febit, the company will now be able to offer whole-genome sequencing at competitive prices; the price for resequencing a whole human genome will start at EUR9,750 (GBP8,774).
The ultra-deep resequencing with 99.94 per cent accuracy enables SNP and mutation detection as well as the detection of structural variations such as insertions, deletions, inversions and translocations, added Staehler.
The whole-genome resequencing service extends Febit's service portfolio, which includes the targeted resequencing of genomic regions of interest with its high-throughput Hybselect technology.
Together with a barcoding option, the company's new service portfolio is intended to advance the use of next-generation sequencing for larger-scale clinical studies.
