A range of longer lasting diamond-grinding discs for the surface preparation of metal, ceramic and polymeric solid materials prior to metallographic or similar analysis has been launched by Aptex.
Manufactured by Akasel, Aptex has exclusive UK distribution for the range of Piatto Grinding Discs.
Offering the alternative to several grinding paper stages with a single-disc machining stage, Piatto discs are suitable for use with all materials having hardness greater than 150HV.
Key to the development of the range is a wear-compensating surface, which overcomes the problem of concentrated wear towards the centre of the disc.
The diamond abrasive is held in a resin bond and the Piatto disc range has been designed with an increased resin density towards its centre.
During grinding of the material specimen, the disc wears evenly across its diameter - resulting in optimum flatness and longer disc life.
There are three disc diameters available from 200 to 300mm and five grit sizes for each diameter, from P80 up to P1200 (200 - 15um).
Each grit size is colour coded and all products are backed by Material Safety Datasheets, which can be downloaded online.
Complementing the Piatto range are Akasel's Allegran fine grinding and polishing discs.
Designated Allegran 9, Allegran 3 and Allegran 1, the range is available in four disc diameters - from 200mm up to 350mm.
Allegran offers high stock removal, long life and sample flatness.
