Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced that the Macherey-Nagel Nucleospin FFPE RNA kit is available to UK scientists for the enhanced performance of downstream applications, such as RT-PCR.
This simple 'mini spin' method is designed for the rapid isolation of total RNA from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples, yielding high quality, highly concentrated RNA.
The integrity of isolated RNA is well preserved throughout the Nucleospin FFPE RNA extraction procedure.
According to Thermo Fisher, the RNA templates are less fragmented than in samples obtained using alternative methods and a de-cross-linking buffer (included in the kit) removes formaldehyde cross links, to improve the performance of downstream applications.
DNA digestion is performed on column, for DNA-free RNA, while the XS column design ensures that the final RNA sample is highly concentrated (elution in as little as 5-30ul) for high sensitivity in procedures such as RT-qPCR.
Nucleospin FFPE RNA is also said to be safe, quick and convenient to use; paraffin removal is easy and non-hazardous.
The Paraffin Dissolver, also included in the kit, is non-toxic and non-odorous, melting the paraffin in three minutes.
The total number of steps required have been minimised and shortened for greater speed and convenience and to preserve RNA quality.
There are no time-consuming mixing steps and no lengthy incubations.
Nucleospin FFPE RNA is suitable for the isolation of ready-to-use RNA from a large variety of FFPE starting materials, including clinical samples.
Kits are available for 10, 50 or 250 preparations.
