The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) have announced 2011 educational teleconferences for clinical and public health laboratories.
The programmes, which are based on current CLSI documents and scheduled to run through January-March 2011, are intended to help pathologists, managers, supervisors, technologists and laboratory and quality consultants learn how to optimise practices and processes in their laboratories.
Teleconference speakers are subject-matter experts from CLSI subcommittees and working groups involved in creating CLSI documents.
Because the programmes incur no travel expenses, CLSI claim they offer an affordable method through which to train a large number of laboratory professionals.
Participants can gain information from experts in the field and have the opportunity to ask detailed questions during the question-and-answer session at the end of the programme.
Topics of upcoming teleconferences include: The basics: using CLSI antimicrobial susceptibility testing standards; CLSI 2011 antimicrobial susceptibility testing update; Using GP34-a to document blood collection-tube performance in your lab; POCT08-a: a point-of-care resource for non-laboratory specialists; and Molecular diagnostic testing: updated specimen handling guidance.
Registration is done through the website and discounts are offered for conference-series registration.
