The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute and the Association of Public Health Laboratories have set the 2011 Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Update teleconference for 2 and 3 February.
Each year, CLSI updates standards for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST).
It is important for clinical laboratories to incorporate the recommendations into routine practice to optimise detection and reporting of antimicrobial resistance.
In January 2011, the annual update of the M100 tables (CLSI document Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing; 21st Informational Supplement (M100-S21) was published.
M100-S21 includes several new and revised tables, such as those containing suggestions for confirming uncommon results.
It also contains the recently modified carbapenem breakpoints for Enterobacteriaceae.
These, and other recommendations found in M100-S21, will be highlighted during this programme.
The speaker of the teleconference is Janet A Hindler, a clinical microbiologist from the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, US.
Two dates are available for the AST conference: 2 February from 13:00-14:30 Eastern (US) Time and 3 February from 15:00-16:30 Eastern (US) Time.
