Sartorius Stedim Biotech has launched a system combining high cross-flow filtration performance with single-use technology, ideal for ultrafiltration, microfiltration and diafiltration applications.
The Sartoflow Alpha Plus SU delivers full operational flexibility and is optimised for the applications used in many downstream processes such as the purification of vaccines, monoclonal antibodies or recombinant proteins.
The system has been developed for use in cGMP environments for process development, clinical trials and small-scale commercial manufacturing.
The Sartoflow Alpha Plus SU is said to be ideal for contract manufacturers, research and development and applications with multi-product throughput.
All product wetted parts of the system are supplied sterile and are made from single-use components, making them ready to use.
The system is equipped with a capsulated gamma-sterilised bag loop, which contains the cross-flow cartridge unit, pump tubing, pressure domes, flowmeters, valves, bags and tubing.
The compact design allows even small volumes to be purified under aseptic conditions on a laboratory bench top.
Dr Marc Jenke, product manager for Crossflow Systems at Sartorius Stedim Biotech, said: 'The Sartoflow Alpha Plus SU combines pre-sterilised single-use technology with process control for cross-flow applications.
'Innovative process solutions from cassette manufacturing, system engineering and the development of single-use technologies characterise this product,' he added.
The Sartoflow Alpha Plus SU and its touch screen are splash proof and can withstand continuous use in both laboratory and production conditions.
The control unit and the filtration module are separate components, thus facilitating handling.
