A large US Gulf Coast refiner has decided to protect its large hydrogen screw compressors by adding in-line lube oil viscometers from Cambridge Viscosity to all its new and existing units.
The main problem at the facility was that, despite using separators, the lubricant on its hydrogen screw compressors was becoming diluted by gas carry-over or contamination.
This can cause problems if it goes unnoticed, especially during subsequent start-ups.
To address this risk, the refinery has taken Cambridge's in-line lube oil viscometers and connected them to centralised monitoring stations, which receive instantaneous information.
