Lumetrics has launched Lumetriscan 360, a fully automated non-contact thickness measurement system for the medical industry.
The Lumetriscan 360 can be used on long-length medical tubing measuring up to 36in (91cm) in length or balloons of almost any size.
The system is intended to reduce inspection costs, improve yields and satisfy stringent FDA requirements for new and existing products.
John Hart, president of Lumetrics, said: 'With the data obtained from the Lumetriscan, you can ensure higher-quality and more consistent products.
'Our systems significantly reduce inspection and scrap costs and improve yields, providing a real economic reason to upgrade your inspection capabilities,' he added.
The Lumetriscan 360 allows a product to be rotated 360deg and to scan the length of an item, mapping the thickness of the entire body.
For example, this technique can be used to take a series of measurements along the length of a medical balloon and do it at multiple pressures.
This information is said to be critical for the design of a newly developed balloon and is equally important to the production process.
