Uniqsis has published an application note detailing a mild nitration method that minimises the risks posed by volatile nitrating mixture.
The FlowSyn platform enables continuous flow-through conditions, generating a more stable environment for the potentially hazardous, exotherms.
The application note describes how the Uniqsis flow chemistry apparatus is fitted with a glass static mixer/ reactor chip and can then be used to perform rapid, high yield nitration of methyl 3-methoxy, 4-ethoxybenzonate using nitric acid and acetic acid.
The product is then isolated in high yield and purity via precipitation from water.
