Malvern Instruments has today revealed that it is to complete the acquisition of nanoparticle characterisation specialist NanoSight.
Malvern’s parent company, Spectris, announced the deal, worth an estimated £15 million, as a strategic move to grow and strengthen its existing businesses.
Spectris’ business group director Jim Webster said: “We believe that our life science and industrial customers will benefit greatly from the availability of this additional product range from Malvern. Furthermore, the acquisition of NanoSight will provide new opportunities through the combination of both companies’ technologies, customer support capabilities and distribution channels.”

Malvern’s Zetasizer range and NanoSight’s Nanoparticle Tracking Analaysis (NTA) system are just two of the product similarities highlighted in response to the acquisition.
“By bringing together complementary, leading edge technologies, Malvern continues to focus on delivering the analytical tools which laboratories so urgently need,” said managing director of Malvern Instruments, Paul Walker.
Experts at Malvern Instruments believe the procurement of NanoSight and its technology will help the rapid advancement in nanomaterial and life sciences applications as it enables laboratories to provide quantitative detection and characterisation capabilities that make exosomes a viable proposition as biomarkers for drug discovery, disease prognosis and diagnosis and monitoring.
