Brings together popular methods and technology into a smart, clean and compact unit, allowing the chemist to experiment without the hassle and mess of oil
Asynt has designed an oil-free bath which can be used in conjunction with the standard stirring hotplate found in every chemistry lab.
DrySyn offers a clean and effective method of heating and stirring a reaction without the mess of an oil bath. The DrySyn can be heated to temperatures of 200C without hot oil issues, and allows the chemist to utilise standard round bottom reaction flasks of 50ml to 1000ml capacities with specially-designed inserts for the smaller sizes.
Recent tests undertaken show that DrySyn not only competes with the oil bath in temperature transferability, but also offers many advantages over the commonly used heating mantle option.
"The tests all used water as a worst case solvent and common organic solvents would reach reflux in considerably shorter times due to their lower specific heats", says Norman De'Ath from NJD Scientific Consultancy.
"In terms of heating performance it proved equal to the best custom fitted oil baths available and would be superior to the majority of improvised baths many chemists use".
