Beckman Coulter introduces a new accessory kit for the Biomek 2000, with hardware and software elements that automate the quantitation and normalisation of DNA samples in 96-well plates
Quantitation and normalisation of DNA samples improve the quality of the DNA sequencing data generated from the samples, but the normalisation process is tedious to perform manually and is often skipped altogether.
The Biomek 2000 automatically performs the tedious steps, taking only 10 to 25 minutes for quantitation and approximately 40 minutes for normalisation.
The accessory kit includes pre-developed BioWorks methods and new Data Collector software for quantitating DNA sample concentrations by reading sample and standard plates.
Collected data is transferred to an Excel spreadsheet for normalisation calculations.
The new Normalisation Wizard software then generates the appropriate BioWorks method to automatically perform the tedious well-by-well pipetting to create a normalised copy of the sample plate. Accessory kits are available for mounting either a Spectramax 190 or a Fluostar Galaxy reader to the Biomek 2000 for the quantitation step.
"We used to provide this capability only as a custom-order solution," explains Susan Stone, strategic marketing manager for Beckman Coulter.
"We have now transitioned quantitation and normalisation to a fully validated and supported product, another of our comprehensive suite of tools that automates the entire molecular biology process."
