A new range of compact bench-top freeze dryers available through Biopharma Process Systems are the ideal solution for small-scale freeze-drying applications, especially where laboratory space is at a premium.
Despite measuring just 39.4cm wide x 48.3cm deep and 39.4cm high, the VirTis BTK series of freeze dryers are available with a range of features and options to suit most small-scale freeze drying needs.
All three models in the range (BT2K, BT4K and BT6K) are designed to handle different products which may include vials, flasks, trays, bulk products or other formats.
They can be supplied with a variety of manifold designs, heated and unheated shelf racks, and stoppering assemblies. Condenser temperatures are available from -55C to -105C and condenser capacities of 2.5, 8 or 9 litres.
The VirTis SLS control system is fitted as standard in the BTK range, providing vacuum control, conversion of temperature to vapour pressure, oil change warning alarm, and optional workstation software.
There is also an ALC control system for the 4K and 6K models, which enables manual and recipe driven automation, temperature control of the optional heated drying racks, an alarm and warning package and three different modes of vacuum control.
All models offer the facility for freezing and freeze-drying in the same unit.
With the BT2K and BT4K, this is possible with the unique VirTis three-position shelf which allows for products to be firstly frozen by lowering the shelf to the bottom of the condenser, then raised up to enable the product to dry.
Furthermore, a patented Kwik-Dry option, utilising unwanted compressor heat, can be used to increase the speed of drying.
VirTis's patented quick seal valves come as standard with all of the manifold options, allowing the connection of a variety of flasks and ampoules. Other features include an automated hot gas defrost system for quick and easy ice removal and drying rate windmill which indicates the end of the drying process.
