New kit uses DNA ligase together with labelled oligonucleotide probes for specific detection of double-stranded DNA that is either blunt or has a 3' single dT overhang
Flowgen, a supplier of DNA, RNA, protein and PCR products for the laboratory, has just launched a novel apoptosis detection system. Known as ApopTag peroxidase In Situ Oligo Ligation (Isol), this new kit uses DNA ligase together with labelled oligonucleotide probes for specific detection of double-stranded DNA that is either blunt or has a 3' single dT overhang.
Such ends are important because they are more frequently found in apoptotic than necrotic cells.
Improved staining of such cells enables them to be more easily distinguished in the laboratory.
As well as being the best way to differentiate apoptosis from necrosis, Isol also minimises background due to non-specific labelling of DNA. This in turn means that results can be clearly visualised using a brightfield microscope.
Flowgen is the UK distributor of Isol and a wide variety of complementary apoptosis detection products from Serologicals.
