Software automatically identifies populations of live and dead cells, while ignoring any debris present in the sample, without user intervention
At Drug Discovery Technology 2003, Guava Technologies introduced the Guava ViaCount RCS assay, a new software option for the Guava PCA and Guava PCA-96 systems that fully automates data analysis for cell counting and viability testing.
The new Guava RCS software automatically identifies populations of live and dead cells, while ignoring any debris present in the sample, without user intervention.
Sophisticated clustering algorithms and heuristics developed using a range of real-world data provide a standardised, fully automated approach to cell counting and viability assessment that eliminates user subjectivity in data analysis, increasing system ease-of-use.
Building upon the proven Guava ViaCount assay that set new standards by enabling researchers to quickly and easily distinguish between healthy cells, apoptotic (dying) cells and those already dead, the ViaCount RCS offers an option for research laboratories and cell processing facilities willing to trade the ability to look at apoptosis for even greater ease-of-use and standardisation of cell viability measurements between users.
"Although we are initially applying Guava RCS to our ViaCount cell count and viability assay, we expect to leverage this exciting new software technology, incorporating it into other existing and future Guava assays, said Paul Kinnon, VP of sales and marketing.
"This strategy supports our overall objective of providing tools to accelerate life science research, by enabling immediate access to sophisticated biological assays, at the lab benchtop".
Guava RCS software allows multiparameter data to be analysed simultaneously as correlated information, rather than researchers interpreting such data in single parameter histograms with dual parameter plots.
The subjective two-dimensional plot analysis by researchers is inherently limited and imprecise because the data cannot be considered in a correlated fashion.
The Guava PCA systems, available in both single tube and 96-well plate formats, simplify cell analysis in a single, powerful benchtop platform that scientists in the lab can use with less than one day of training.
The Guava PCA systems require only a few microlitres of sample volume, saving precious and expensive cells, reagents and compounds, and are flexible, highly affordable, and ultra-compact.
Unlike traditional cell analysis systems, the Guava PCA systems produce reliable, objective single-cell analysis from a single well or tube right at the benchtop.
This gives researchers comprehensive test results-fast-thus streamlining the entire R and D and drug discovery process.
