The cell is designed to enable rheological measurements under conditions that simulate fluid processing, and extends the testing range to high pressure and high temperature applications
Malvern Instruments has introduced the new HPC 300 high pressure/high temperature cell which can be mounted directly on to its Bohlin CVO, C-VOR and Gemini rheometers.
The cell is designed to enable rheological measurements under conditions that simulate fluid processing, and extends the testing range to high pressure and high temperature applications.
Such measurements cannot be made in open systems on conventional rheometers, but these conditions are often present in the processing environment. The HPC 300 has applications in a wide range of industries, including oil, petrochemicals, polymers, coatings, foods and personal care products.
The HPC 300 comprises a cup and bob assembly in a fully enclosed environment.
An integrated electrical heater achieves temperatures of up to 300C, with an operating range from 40 to 300C.
Pressurisation is from an external source (up to 300bar) or from vapour pressure generated by the sample under test.
In addition the cell can be sealed to simulate, for example, processing conditions of aqueous solutions at high temperatures, or to determine the behaviour of samples with high volatile content over a range of temperatures and pressures.
The HPC 300 can be used to measure flow properties in controlled stress or constant rate conditions as well as to determine structural information using low frequency oscillatory tests.
All the HPC 300's wetted parts are made from Hastelloy C which allows its use with a wide range of chemically aggressive samples.
The bob sits on low friction jewel bearings and is driven by the rheometer through magnetic couplings. Titanium bobs are optionally available for situations requiring minimal inertia of the measuring system.
Inlet and outlet ports allow sample addition and removal without the need to disassemble the cell, offering the possibility of online measurement.
