Electrochemical (amperometric) detection with the 791 IC-VA detector is an extremely sensitive detection method which is used successfully in both HPLC and ion chromatography.
This method is also characterised by its very high selectivity as only substances which are easily oxidised or reduced are detected; chloride and sulphate are not detected and do not interfere with the electrochemical determination, even at high concentrations. The detector can be used in series or parallel with other detectors which are normally used in IC or HPLC (eg conductivity or UV/VIS detectors).
There are numerous electrodes suitable for each voltammetric application.
