Ease of operation, perfect reliability, minimum external supply requirements, high data security, and precise and reproducible results are all claimed for this IC
The Metrohm 811 online IC is designed to provide optimum IC analysis in accordance with industry standards.
This means ease of operation, perfect reliability even in rough environments, minimum external supply requirements, high data security and, of course, precise and reproducible results, according to Metrohm. The 811 is an instrument that benefits from Metrohm's long-term experience in online analysis.
The 811 can be custom-tailored to any online IC application.
The standard version is a one-channel instrument that allows to analyse either cations or anions.
The dual-channel version is designed to analyse cations and anions simultaneously.
The sample sequence is freely programmable.
For every single sample stream a freely defined number of ions can be analysed and monitored.
Special control cards show at a glance whether the values are inside the required concentration ranges.
The IC system itself consists of top-class components that have been used for many years in the modular Metrohm IC systems.
The whole system is designed to require very little maintenance.
The whole instrument can be remote-controlled.
The online IC is designed such that it can also be used by non-chemists.
The 811 online IC brings online analysis to a new level of performance.
It defines new standards concerning price-performance ratio, simplicity of use, reliability and quality of the analytical results.
Calibrating an IC system is an integral and important procedure in ion chromatography.
Only with a perfect calibration can perfect results be obtained.
Calibration procedures using direct injections of standards with different concentrations are well known and easy to perform.
However, as soon as very low concentrations have to be determined, the situation becomes much more difficult.
At low ppb levels the preparation of standard solutions is already creating some difficulties.
Especially the ubiquitous ions like chloride and ammonia can easily become a reason for contamination.
To prepare and to store correct ppt-level standard solutions is just about impossible.
The Metrohm Inline Calibration provides a powerful tool that can be used for the preparation of such low concentrated standard solutions.
This procedure eliminates the contamination problem. The Metrohm scheme allows the calibration of any standard concentration in the ppt-range by using ppb-level standard solutions.
The setup uses a calibration valve that is, eg, equipped with a 10ul loop.
When 10ul of a 100ppb solution is injected onto the preconcentration column, this corresponds to the preconcentration of 10 mL of a 100 ppt solution (see chromatogram).
Throwing the valves one, two or any number of times creates different calibration levels.
This is an easy way to perform a multipoint calibration with a high accuracy at a very low concentration level.
The calibration curves obtained are said to be extremely reproducible.
