Advanced features such as optimisation wizards are specifically designed for quicker, more efficient operation and reduced requirement for training and support
PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences has announced a significant upgrade to the software that drives PerkinElmer Sciex's leading Elan family of inductively-coupled plasma-mass spectrometers (ICP-MS).
Elan ICP-MS products are developed and sold through a joint venture called PerkinElmer Sciex, which is a partnership between PerkinElmer and MDS Sciex. The new Elan 3.0 software running under the Windows XP operating system offers many new capabilities and ease of use enhancements that improve laboratory productivity.
For instance, common instrument parameters are automatically optimised through a new SmartTune wizard.
SmartTune effortlessly optimises sensitivity and performs mass calibration and resolution adjustment all with a single mouse click.
Other time-saving functions include the ability to insert priority samples while an analysis is in progress as well as append samples to a run list.
Whenever new samples are added, the Elan software intelligently re-sequences samples and QCs to maintain the frequency of QC checks.
A complete run list can also be printed to make loading the autosampler easier and prevent solution placement errors in large automated runs.
Unique sample IDs can be applied to QC samples and calibration standards to enhance QC reporting and post-run data analysis.
Improved chromatographic control facilitates inorganic speciation analysis.
To minimise training and support, Elan 3.0 software provides an extensive HTML-based help system that guides the user through operational procedures.
In addition, the Help menu includes video tutorials that provide step-by-step instructions for typical maintenance procedures.
A number of Elan spreadsheet functions have been enhanced to speed method set-up through copy and paste, shift selection of cells and freeze-panes to scroll-lock columns.
The Method-Report tab includes a convenient option to export the data to PerkinElmer's Labworks Lims software.
Elan 3.0 software is available on new PerkinElmer Sciex Elan instruments, and as an upgrade for all Elan 6000, 6100, 9000 and DRC-equipped models.
