Photonic Products says that Sanyo's blue-violet laser diode is now available in a high power version, giving 35mW light output at 405nm wavelength in a small 5.6mm package.
The increased power at 405nm in the blue-violet wavelength, along with the stable beam structure, the lower noise and lower current consumption all add up to a higher performance compared with conventional blue-violet laser diodes.
This makes Sanyo's DL-LS5005 blue-violet laser diode an optimum light source for very high-resolution printing and large capacity optical data storage, as well as laser diode modules for industrial and medical applications.
Demand for the laser diode is expected to rise sharply as large capacity optical disc systems become more widely used, because blue light reads and stores data at much higher densities than the visible wavelength laser diodes currently available.
The Sanyo DL-LS5005 laser diode is easily mass-produced because the stable beam structure reduces the number of fabrication steps while the top and bottom electrodes structure reduces chip size.
The Sanyo DL-LS5005 laser diode gives 35mW output power at a wavelength of 405nm, has a low threshold current, (Ith), of 50mA, typical operating current, (Iop), of 90mA, operating voltage, (Vop), of 5.7V, differential efficiency, (dPo/dIop), of 0.9mW/mA and astigmatism, (As), of 3 micrometers.
It requires a LD only, (no internal monitor photodiode), positive power supply system and has an operating temperature of -10C to +60C.
