Software quickly pulls graph values, distances, areas, angles, and colour values from graphics; 30 day free trial version available for download
SkillCrest has released VistaMetrix, new Windows software that provides tools for easily extracting quantitative data from graphical images.
It is especially useful in any situation where the numerical data corresponding to an image is unavailable. Examples would include images that have been scanned, downloaded from the internet, or captured with digital photography. VistaMetrix lets a user place a transparent overlay with measurement tools on top of the image to do any of the following. Extract values from graphs.
VistaMetrix handles multiple data sets, consisting of multiple curves or multiple sets of points. It also handles graphs that have been tilted due to scanning. Measure distance and area on curved paths.
The user can place markers along the paths to show intermediate distances with annotations.
Measure angles and straight-line distances.
Record the colour values (RGB, HLS, and CMYK) at multiple points of an underlying image.
VistaMetrix can save the extracted data, including graph values, distances, areas, and colour values as Excel or comma-delimited text files.
To augment the basic measurement functions VistaMetrix lets the user zoom, add text annotations, and save a bitmap of a selected portion of the screen along with the overlaid VistaMetrix tools.
The VistaMetrix online Help covers all functions and provides step-by-step tips for getting started.
VistaMetrix runs on Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, XP, and requires 6Mbytes of disk space.
The price is US$49.95.
The SkillCrest website has links for downloading the setup file for a fully functional evaluation version, allowing 30 days of free use.
Installing the evaluation version also provides an illustrated guide with more information.
Purchasing VistaMetrix enables registration for unlimited use without additional downloading.
