New specification for mass spectrometry range is response to user feedback, to make the different instrument options for each application requirement more cost-effective
Thermo Electron has tailored the instrument packages available with its X series ICP-MS.
Following extensive customer feedback collected over the first two years of successful deliveries, the X series offer has been revised to make the different instrument options for each application requirement more cost-effective.
The basic X series ICP-MS has been upgraded with the addition of PlasmaScreen Plus for enhanced sensitivity.
This augments the standard Xi interface while still maintaining unrivalled dynamic range, matrix stability and interference performance, which make the basic X series the ideal instrument for all protocol regulated environmental analysis, including US methods 200.8, 6020a, ILM05.2d and EU methods such as UK DWI NS30.
Peltier spray chamber cooling can be added to the basic X series ICP-MS to achieve stability in a laboratory with poor temperature control. This also allows even better interference control in routine analysis.
The simple addition of collision cell technology with energy discrimination (CCTED) opens up new detection limit capabilities by orders of magnitude for more demanding environmental and clinical applications.
The changes to the X series product range coincide with the release of version 2.3 of Thermo Electron's PlasmaLab software suite for ICP-MS.
This latest revision adds further levels of automation, including instrument calibration wizards that remove any ambiguity from the procedures for mass calibration and detector setup.
The new software ensures that new detectors are automatically pre-conditioned on installation to ensure they have the longest useful lifespan.
During use, the detectors are also protected by higher levels of lifetime control and diagnostics to further reduce the cost of routine ICP-MS analysis.
In an attempt to reduce the day to day costs to users of ICP-MS, PlasmaLab 2.3 integrates tools that work more closely with Lims.
This functionality enables the import of sample lists into simple PlasmaLab templates, thereby reducing setup times from one or more hours to seconds.
