LGC's Food Regulatory Atlas - an ideal resource for the small food producer, retailer or caterer - identifies key legislation across sectors, product ranges and processes
LGC, the independent analytical laboratory providing chemical, biochemical and DNA analysis, has published the Food Regulatory Atlas in association with the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the first route-map of its kind covering the food industry.
A regularly updated web version is also planned.
Understanding and complying with food legislation and manufacturing regulations can be demanding. "The framework of regulations covering all parts of the food industry is extensive and complex, with new rules governing, for example, genetically modified ingredients," said Richard Worswick, LGC's chief executive.
"In order to help steer a course through the regulatory maze, LGC, with support from DTI and FSA, has taken the lead in assembling this easy-to-follow atlas.
We believe it will serve as a vital working document for food manufacturers, retailers, caterers, importers and consumers and all those with a professional interest in food regulatory enforcement." The Food Regulatory Atlas, covering every stage of the food chain, shows how the main EU and UK food legislation fits together and identifies probable routes to the appropriate regulatory compliance and codes of practice.
It is designed to help individuals faced with the challenge of multifaceted legislation, providing explanations of regulatory terms and requirements as well as contact points where help is available - all in a user-friendly format.
The Atlas costs £35.
