Introduction of new products follows the integration of the optical communications test business of the former Ando Electric into Yokogawa's Test and Measurement division
Yokogawa is featuring a number of new optical test and measurement products at ECOC 2005.
The introduction of these new products follows the integration of the optical communications test business of the former Ando Electric into Yokogawa's Test and Measurement division.
Being shown for the first time are two compact, easy-to-use and economical instruments for 10Gbit/s bit-error-rate testing.
The AQ2200-601 is based on the successful AQ2200 modular platform and is suited to both laboratory and manufacturing applications, while the AP9945 is a portable unit which is ideal for field testing.
These new instruments provide comprehensive testing capabilities for 10Gbit/s networks as well as ethernet and 10Gbit/s components such as transmitter and receiver optical subassemblies, XFP transceivers and Pin diodes.
Both the AQ2200-601 and the AQ9945 offer pulse pattern generation from 9.95Gbit/s up to 11.32Gbit/s, as well as variable amplitude, offset and crosspoint settings.
Internal clock data recovery makes it very easy to run tests without providing a separate clock signal.
Also new at the show are two plug-in measurement modules as well as emulation software for the company's AQ7260 optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR).
The AQ7269 offers both single-mode fibre (SMF) and multi-mode fibre (MMF) measurement capability in one unit, while the AQ7265 offers SMF measurements with high dynamic range.
The AQ7269 is said to be ideally suited to meet the needs of fibre installers in the growing Metro, Wan, Lan, and FTTH markets, while the AQ7265 is designed for fibre-optic measurements in long-haul networks.
The new emulation software includes batch analysis reporting and batch print functions as well as data viewing.
Yokogawa Test and Measurement Division, which trades in Europe under the name of Yokogawa Measurement Technologies, is a major worldwide force in the test and measurement market, with products that include portable test instruments, recorders and data-acquisition systems, semiconductor-related test systems, oscilloscopes, power meters, and wireless and optical communications test equipment.
Yokogawa Measurement Technologies is the new identity that has been created for the electronic test and measurement activities of Yokogawa within Europe.
Yokogawa has recently restructured its measurement business following the acquisition of Ando Electric, which it says has created a major world force in the test and measurement market.
The acquisition is the first stage in Yokogawa's plans to become one of the top three test and measurement suppliers in the world by 2008.
Yokogawa's global network of 18 manufacturing facilities, 82 affiliate companies, and over 650 sales and engineering offices spans 28 countries.
Since its founding in 1915, the US$4billion company has been engaged in cutting-edge research and innovation, securing more than 7000 patents and registrations, including the world's first digital sensors for flow and pressure measurement.
Industrial automation and control, test and measurement, information systems and industry support are the core businesses of Yokogawa.
ECOC is the 31st European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication to be held at the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre (SECC), Glasgow, Scotland 26-28 September 2005.
