New multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal covers novel aspects and methods in all areas of biotechnology, especially those focusing on healthcare, nutrition, and technology
Publisher John Wiley and Sons has announced the January 2006 launch of Biotechnology Journal, a new international resource for biotechnology researchers and professionals in related disciplines.
The journal will be published by Wiley-VCH, the company's subsidiary based in Weinheim, Germany.
Fully comprehensive in its scope, Biotechnology Journal will publish peer-reviewed papers covering novel aspects and methods in all areas of biotechnology, especially those focusing on healthcare, nutrition, and technology.
Special focus will also be given to the public, legal, ethical, and cultural aspects of biotechnological research.
"With the launch of Biotechnology Journal, Wiley-VCH will finally establish its own premier journal, building on the top-quality tradition of our biotechnology book series and the highly successful concept of our journals such as Proteomics and Electrophoresis," said Carol Bacchus, editorial director for life and medical sciences at Wiley-VCH.
"Biotechnology Journal will fill the gap other journals leave in their coverage of biotechnology, and will meet the growing demand for an entirely new international publication that addresses all aspects of this rapidly-growing field".
Each issue of Biotechnology Journal will be devoted to a special topic - a first for a biotechnology journal - and will provide the latest comprehensive information on the most important areas of research and technological advances.
Along with the featured topic, each issue will contain original papers, short communications, technical reports illustrating the latest scientific breakthroughs, and news from academia, industry, and governments worldwide.
Special review issues of the journal will bring readers up-to-date on developments in all areas of biotechnology.
Topics in 2006 will include: White biotechnology - bio meets chemistry; Synthesis of chiral compounds; Drug targeting in disease; Entrepreneurs in biotech; New Bio-based materials; DNA and proteins as diagnostic tools; the Art of bioprocessing; and Bionanotech.
Biotechnology Journal will also be the first journal to report on biotech achievements and future applications in specific countries, and will devote an issue in 2006 to biotechnology in China.
Biotechnology Journal will target biotechnologists, engineers, microbiologists, medical and pharmaceutical scientists, food and nutrition scientists, agriculturists, environmental scientists, patent lawyers, and public authorities.
Edited by Hans Gunter Gassen of the Department of Biochemistry at Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany, Biotechnology Journal will be available in print and online via Wiley InterScience.
