This new reader enables the tracking of a sample as it moves through the process, confirming the identification and location and creating a traceable data trail
Beckman Coulter introduces the Biomek Fly-By Bar Code Reader, for positive sample identification and microplate tracking during processing.
It is said to be ideal for a wide range of drug discovery research applications including primary and secondary screening and preclinical labs.
Integrated with Beckman Coulter's Biomek Software, the Fly-By reader collects and transfers data sets associated with a sample whenever pipetting occurs, ensuring that the integrity of all tracked information remains intact.
This accessory provides initial sample reading as well as confirmatory identification on-the-fly during a method.
The identity of a particular microplate can be confirmed before or after plate processing steps such as pipetting, washing, reading or transporting.
The Fly-By Bar Code Reader can be used on any Biomek NX or FX liquid handler that has gripper functionality.
It can scan up to a stack of four microplates at a time.
The software can be programmed to use read results to make subsequent decisions, and the system provides multiple advanced options for error handling.
The Fly-By Bar Code Reader accessory mounts on the side of the Biomek deck and does not take up valuable space.
Multiple Fly-By readers can be used on one system for higher throughput applications.
"Positive sample identification and tracking are critical in biomedical research," commented Robert Lund, strategic marketing manager for Beckman Coulter.
"While options have been available for initial identification, this new accessory provides the first tool to confirm plate and sample information, establishing a secure audit trail".
