Nature Publishing Group partners with Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (Chinese Academy of Sciences) to publish its flagship journal
Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (Sibs), which is affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), recently signed an agreement to publish Cell Research - China's leading international peer-reviewed journal in the life sciences - from January 2006.
The agreement was made public by NPG publishing director David Swinbanks at a conference at Peking University on 17 October 2005.
Cell Research, which publishes exclusively in English, is China's leading journal in the ISI category cell biology with an impact factor of 1.936.
Cell Research will be joining NPG's stable of journals in molecular cell biology, which include Nature Cell Biology, Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, and Cell Death and Differentiation.
This new partnership will provide many benefits for authors of Cell Research papers and readers of the journal.
Readers of the journal will be able access to the best research from China in molecular and cell biology in the one place and the number of contributions from highly-respected scientists from throughout the world will increase with the added exposure the journal will receive and with the unique editorial support and advice NPG can give.
This new partnership will allow Cell Research to take advantage of NPG's strengths: top-class editorial expertise in the field, pioneering technologies, innovative formats and world-class production to provide premium information for scientific researchers in the public and private sectors, government agencies and educators.
Another key strength of NPG is its close relationship with the scientific community.
By working in partnership with scientists, listening to what they say, and always placing emphasis on quality rather than quantity, NPG claims to be the leading scientific publisher at finding scientists' information needs, both for the Nature-branded publications and those, like CR, published in partnership.
This landmark agreement marks the first step in NPG's broader strategy to publish the best of Chinese science.
"This is a great day for Chinese science," commented president of Sibs, Professor Gang Pei, in Shanghai.
"To be working with NPG, the world's highest quality scientific publisher, is a clear sign that Chinese science is coming of age and is beginning to win the recognition it deserves".
Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (Sibs) affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a national R and D organisation for conducting comprehensive studies on life sciences in China.
Founded in July of 1999, it draws on the multi-disciplinary resources of eight former biological research institutes under the jurisdiction of the CAS Shanghai Branch.
The research that SIBS conducts is at the frontiers of life sciences and biotechnology and has a strong focus on human health and biomedical research.
By applying cutting-edge science and technologies, Sibs strives to make fundamental, strategic and far-reaching contributions to the health and welfare of the 1.3 billion Chinese people.
Nature Publishing Group (NPG) is a division of Macmillan Publishers , dedicated to serving the academic, professional scientific and medical communities.
