Polypropylene deep-well plates have excellent heat and solvent resistant qualities and near zero leachates, ensuring long-term sample integrity, unlike some other commercial microplates tested
Porvair Sciences has produced a new technical report that demonstrates the importance of high quality raw material selection for the manufacture of deep well microplates.
Deep well plates today find widespread use in rapidly expanding applications including cell growth monitoring, combinatorial chemistry and sample storage.
In all these applications it is critical that the deep well plates do not negatively impact sample integrity.
Polypropylene is a material commonly selected for deep well microplate manufacture because of its inertness and heat resistance.
The technical evaluation report concludes that not all polypropylene deep well microplates offer the same level of protection of sample integrity.
Further use of some grades of polypropylene used in commercially available deep well plates can lead to sample contamination due to leaching of moulding aid chemicals present in the raw polymer.
The report details and illustrates the methodology and results from GC-MS analysis of the extractables obtained from a range of commercially available deep well microplates including plates from the Porvair Sciences deep well range.
The report demonstrates a good correlation between the Porvair deep well plates and ultra pure control samples in glass tubes.
By comparison other commercial microplates tested displayed extra GCMS peaks identified as chemicals used as additives in the polypropylene to assist the injection moulding process.
Manufactured from polypropylene, Porvair's deep-well plates have excellent heat and solvent resistant qualities says the company.
Using only ultra-pure grade polymer means that the deep-well plates have near zero leachates ensuring long-term sample integrity.
Benefiting from cleanroom production and a proprietary gamma ray irradiation process, Porvair Sciences is able to additionally offer a complete range of sterile deep-well plates for especially sensitive biological and cellular samples.
For molecular biology samples a choice of RNase/DNase free deep-well plates provide the ideal long-term storage media.
