Two of the assays will add to Bayer's fertility panel, while the others will monitors foetal maturity and well-being, and the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism
Bayer Healthcare Diagnostics Division and Future Diagnostics, an immunoassay research and development diagnostics company, have announced a contract agreement for Future Diagnostics to develop a suite of immunoassays for Bayer.
In the first phase of the agreement, four immunoassays will be developed.
Two of the assays, Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) and Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulphate (DHEA-s) will add to Bayer Diagnostics's comprehensive fertility panel.
The other assays to be developed are Unconjugated (Free) estriol (uE3), which monitors foetal maturity and well-being, and D-dimer, for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
According to Tom Warekois, senior vice president of global strategic marketing for Bayer HealthCare's Diagnostics Division, "Bayer Diagnostics's agreement with Future Diagnostics allows us to fulfil our commitment of expanding our immunoassay menu on our Advia Centaur family of instruments including the Advia Centaur immunoassay system, and the Advia Centaur CP immunoassay system.
"In response to market drivers and customer requests, there is a need for labs to consolidate their laboratory instruments.
"Working in parallel with Future Diagnostics, we will expedite new assays to the market to meet the lab's needs".
The companies are in discussions to expand the agreement with additional assays.
Bayer's relationship with Future Diagnostics began in 2001, when it developed an intact PTH assay for Bayer's Advia Centaur immunoassay system.
