The British Society for Strain Measurement is to hold series of seminars on the industrial applications of strain and deformation measurement at the Mtec 2006 exhibition in Birmingham, UK
British Society for Strain Measurement (BSSM) will be holding a series of seminars entitled 'Industrial applications of strain and deformation measurement', during the Mtec 2006 exhibition at the Birmingham NEC, UK.
Topics covered during the seminars will include:.
Industrial applications of strain gauges: Ian Ramage (Techni Measure).
Developments in high temperature strain monitoring: Anthony Cross (Strainsense).
Optical methods for full field shape measurement: Russell Coggrave (PhaseVision).
The Pocket PC - an instrumentation revolution: John Atkinson and Russell Sion (C-Cubed).
This presentation will cover the use of pocket PCs as handheld portable instruments in vibration analysis applications such as condition based maintenance, bearing fault detection and torque analysis.
Case studies and examples will be included.
BSSM is a scientific and educational organisation whose main aims are to advance the knowledge of strain measurement, stress analysis and related areas of experimental mechanics.
The society provides a forum for the exchange of information in strain measurement and related technologies, as well as promoting and encouraging training and certification in strain gauge application, strain analysis and stress and load analysis.
The society organises specialist conferences and technical exhibitions and provides a forum for publishing research, reviewing developing equipment and products in the journal Strain, which is distributed to over 50 countries worldwide.
BSSM members' interests include experimental stress and strain analysis, non destructive evaluation techniques.
residual stress analysis, impact behaviour of materials and structures, transducer and sensor design, structural health monitoring, biomechanics and materials, structural dynamics, and hybrid numerical/experimental techniques.
Society chairman Richard Burguete, experimental mechanics specialist at Airbus UK, said: "The Mtec exhibition is a popular forum for industrialists and academics to view the state of the art in commercially available measurement technology.
"BSSM sits at the interface between industry, academia and the wider engineering community and promotes their interaction to ensure the wide dissemination of new ideas and best practise in the field of engineering measurement".
The society is made up of individual, student, corporate and educational members in the UK and abroad.
The final list of topics and speakers for the seminars will be confirmed at a later date.
