Renishaw has opened a subsidiary company as a trading office in Shanghai to support its rapidly expanding customer base in China, with plans to open a further four representative offices there within the next 12 months.
Renishaw Shanghai Trading Co is based in the Unicom International Tower, and will enable customers in China to purchase from Renishaw in the local RMB currency.
Support to customers will also be enhanced, with the new office operating Renishaw's Repair by Exchange (RBE) service scheme, designed to minimise machine downtime.
Speaking about the new company, Andy Buttrey, managing director of Renishaw Shanghai Trading, said: "We will be supplying the full range of Renishaw's market leading products, including CMM probe systems, touch probes and laser tool setters for CNC machine tools, linear and rotary encoders for position feedback, calibration systems for machine performance analysis, and Raman spectroscopy systems for spectral analysis".
Buttrey has worked with Renishaw in Asia for the last 13 years, with a specific focus on the Chinese market.
Renishaw opened its first representative office in Beijing in 1994, which was followed by a Shanghai office in 2000.
There are currently around 30 employees in China, but with offices planned in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Qingdao, this number is set to rise rapidly.
The company is currently seeking sales and support engineers to work from these new offices, and is also recruiting home-based engineers to support customers in multiple cities across China, including Xian, Wuhan, Xiamen and Kunming.
