Scuoler and Stannah brothers receive lift from honours list
19 Jun 2017
Stannah stairlift pioneers Brian and Alan Stannah and EEF chief executive Terry Scuoler were among a host of recipients from the engineering, life science and process sectors to receive awards in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Scuoler [pictured earlier this year with Princess Anne] who steps down this year after seven years at the head of the manufacturers’ organisation, was awarded a CBE, with the Stannah brothers both receiving an MBE.
In a statement Scuoler said: “I am enormously proud to receive this honour, particularly as the citation is for services to manufacturing and engineering. It is an enormous privilege to represent manufacturing in the UK, which remains core to the country’s economic success.”
Alan and Brian Stannah, joint chairmen of the family firm that celebrates 150 years in the business, said: “We are deeply humbled to be the recipients of such an honour. A steadfast commitment to innovation, quality and customer service has been the guiding principles of our family business and are as relevant today as they were when we joined the business.”
The duo are credited as the driving force behind the stairlift that is now synonymous with the firm and has exceeded more than 0.6 million sales since its invention in the 1970s.
