The Institute of Clinical Research has announced that Edward Gabriele will be the keynote speaker at its 2007 annual spring conference, held at the ICC in Birmingham, UK, March 27 and 28
Dr Gabriele, who is an internationally renowned research ethicist and consultant in research ethics education and values formation, is a member of the Distinguished Faculty of the Society of Research Administrators International.
For the society he also serves as editor of the Journal of Research Administration, and director of the SRA Senior Executive Institute.
In his keynote, he will stress his belief in the importance of individual passion for high quality, ethical clinical research and recovering the "human face of medicine and research".
His presentation will lead the way beyond compliance into integrity, integrating the highest of what we profess with the depth of our personal values.
"Perhaps we should imagine that one of our children might enrol in one of these studies, or that our studies might save the life of a spouse or loved one," suggests Gabriele.
He will champion "an uncompromised commitment to protect and defend those who cannot protect and defend themselves.
"This is an energy that stokes my own fires and will for the rest of my life".
John Hooper, chief executive of the ICR said: "This year's keynote session will clearly be an important event for anyone involved with clinical research, combining the breadth and depth of Edward Gabriele's knowledge and experience with his passion for putting the patient first.
"Those wanting to hear more of his insightful views on how we must conduct clinical research to the highest ethical standards should register to attend now to avoid disappointment".
Along with a wide range of other speakers, debates and workshops scheduled throughout the two day event, the ICR announces that inspirational speaker and international memory grandmaster, David Thomas will be delivering the closing presentation.
Hooper added: "If the possibility of accessing your memory's vast untapped resources, (for either personal or business reasons) appeals as much to you as it does to me, I suggest that delegates make a point of attending David Thomas's session."
