Award is made to Renishaw for the development of a radio transmission spindle probe system, the RMP60 and RMI probe system used on computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools
The systems are able to measure work pieces, provide off-set fixtures, control in-cycle processes and final inspect work being machined automatically.
The innovations include the incorporation of a specialised transmission control algorithm, the introduction of frequency hopping to reduce radio interference and the development of a technique for turning probes on and off using radio signals.
The new system has improved the reliability, speed and safety of CNC machines.
David McMurtry, chairman and chief executive, said that Renishaw was delighted to receive another commendation for one of its products, and paid tribute to the group's employees in the UK and overseas who have contributed to the success of its RMP60/RMI system worldwide.
Renishaw's business is metrology, the science of measurement, with innovative products that ensure that exacting specifications are met with cost-effective methods, and perform measurement to international standards.
These include position feedback encoders for the precision motion control of laboratory equipment and dentaL Cad/Cam systems.
