Unlike the traditional quartz-encased cell, this stainless steel-encased cell does not require courier shipment and is much less susceptible to accidental breakage.
Its ultra pure (>99.9999%) metal and 156mm (6.14inch) immersion depth provide +/-2mK uncertainties that rival those of a traditional quartz cell, but the 5947 costs less to buy and maintain.
In Hart's 9260 mini furnace, the cell provides a long enough plateau for a full day's work with a realisation uncertainty of +/-4mK.
