A GBP32,000 donation from Toshiba Information Systems will help poor but academically gifted children study science and maths A-Levels at Reed's School, Surrey.
Reed's School is providing a full scholarship for two pupils at the beginning of their A-level courses.
The first scholar will start in September 2009.
The Ogden Trust, which promotes the teaching and learning of science through sponsorship, will also contribute towards the tuition and boarding fees of the two pupils.
Reed's School is an independent day and boarding school for pupils aged between 11 and 18.
Over 75 per cent of pupils achieved an A grade in physics and 95 per cent achieved an A or B grade in maths at A-Level last year.
However, the number of pupils taking these subjects has dropped dramatically nationally, leading to fewer students applying for university courses and careers in science and engineering.
Toshiba hopes that by providing the necessary funding, children who may otherwise have not been given the opportunity will be able to study maths and physics at a successful school, regardless of their family's financial background, increasing their chances of a good career in technology later on.
Candidates will be invited to sit Reed's School's Sixth Form entry examination in November 2008 and the first candidate will be selected for the 2009 scholarship once their GCSE results are known.
The closing date for applications is October 14th 2008.
