Thermo Fisher Scientific is sponsoring a Biochemical Society focused meeting entitled 'Advances in Nucleic Acid Detection and Quantification'.
The meeting is set to take place at Hinxton Hall, Cambridge, UK, on 28-29 October 2008.
The meeting will gather leading molecular biologists to explore the latest technologies available for nucleic acid detection and will include other topics of interest such as single cell molecular biology.
Among the list of confirmed speakers for the meeting are molecular biologist Professor Sir Edwin Southern FRS, who received the Lasker award in 2005 for his invention of the Southern blot, and Dr Roger Lasken, a pioneer in single cell genomic sequencing and developer of the Multiple Displacement Amplification (MDA) method, which is used in the amplification of small amounts of DNA, including that from single microbial cells.
Organisers of the event include: Dr Devin Leake, director of research and development for genomics products at Thermo Fisher Scientific; Dr Simon Baker, leader of the recently established bioprocess research group at Oxford Brookes University; Dr Ian Kavanagh, research and development manager for genomics products at Thermo Fisher Scientific; Dr Simon Hughes, research officer for bioscience at the British Library; and Dr Jeremy Gillespie, group product manager for genomics products at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Delegates can benefit from 'early bird registration' if they register before 26 September 2008.
Student travel grants are available for this event.
