Southern Scientific has introduced a light, compact floor monitor claimed to be easy to manoeuvre around obstacles, under benches or tables and up walls, where larger, heavier monitors cannot be used.
The FM 6150K is based on the Automess 6150 AD-K contamination monitor, which has a sealed proportional counting tube intended to provide high efficiency for 90Sr/90Y and other alpha and beta emitters such as 241Am, 60Co, 137Cs, 131I and 36CI.
Since it is sealed, it requires no filling or flushing.
Fitted with an adjustable handle that can be detached in 10 seconds so that the contamination monitor can be used on clothing, hands, shoes and work surfaces, the FM 6150K has two small wheels claimed to make it extremely manoeuvrable and the rate meter can either be slotted into the base assembly or connected via a cable.
The active area covers 100cm2 and a manual switch selects alpha or alpha/beta/gamma counting, while the range switching is automatic.
The detector has settable alarm thresholds and microprocessor-controlled compensation and the user can view actual, average or maximum pulse rate or total count.
The FM 6150K detector base measures 210mm x 120mm x 90mm, the handle length is 770mm and it weighs 2kg.
