Southern Scientific has released Decongel 1101, a decontamination gel that quickly decontaminates radioisotopes, particulates, heavy metals and water-soluble and insoluble organic compounds.
Decongel 1101 provides high decontamination factors while minimising contaminated waste.
It is a one-component, water-based and peelable decontamination hydrogel.
It can be applied to most horizontal, vertical or inverted surfaces, including: bare, coated and painted concrete; aluminium, steel, lead, rubber, plexiglass, herculite, wood, porcelain, tile grout, vinyl and ceramics; and linoleum floor tiles.
No preparation is required.
Because it is highly penetrative it removes contamination from all cracks, pores and voids.
When dry, the product locks the contaminants into a tough polymer matrix that can be peeled and disposed of as contaminated waste.
Drying time can take as little as an hour - for thin coats in an open, dry environment - to overnight if thicker coats are applied in humid environments.
Decongel 1101 is delivered in one-litre bottles.
It features minimal odour, removing the need for respirators in most situations.
It is thinned with water and the shelf life is 12 months.
Average coverage is 20 to 50ft a gallon.
