Bringing clinical research back to the UK is top of the agenda for the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) Scottish Forum later this month.
AstraZeneca's government and industry affairs manager, Martin Coombes, is leading the discussion at this event, on 24 June at Glasgow Caledonian University.
He will be speaking alongside Dr Helga Rhein, a GP researching the effects of vitamin D deficiency in patients.
Using his 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Martin will discuss the theme 'What do we need to do to bring research back to the UK?' Based in Edinburgh, he will also provide a Scottish perspective and will talk about current contact with the Scottish government.
Helga Rhein's presentation will focus on solutions to issues faced by a researcher when setting up a dose-finding study, which it is hoped will lead to a large, randomised controlled trial, looking at the health effects of vitamin D deficiency in Scotland.
