Biomerieux has launched an upgrade for its BacT/Alert 3D blood culture system, which provides a suitable environment for the recovery of a range of pathogens.
The new improvements include reporting methods, such as the automatic transmission of preliminary negative-to-date results directly to the LIS from the controller module.
Results can be sent at incubation times ranging from 12 hours to six days.
This makes full use of the data manager facility and saves on the time spent by laboratories answering telephone enquiries from the wards.
Further developments focus on sharpening up the QC and calibration processes and on improving the efficiency of bottle loading, processing and unloading.
The new upgrade takes around 30 minutes to install.
