SP Scientific has broadcast a video to demonstrate how ControLyo Nucleation On-demand Technology can be used to ensure an entire product nucleates at the same time and in the same way during freezing.
Using an example of freeze drying samples in vials, the video illustrates how ControLyo Technology makes the freezing step much more repeatable and allows potentially greater control over cycle optimisation.
SP has signed a license agreement with Praxair to utilise Praxair's ControLyo Nucleation On-demand Technology, which provides pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with precise control over the freeze-drying process for drug developmental efforts.
Freeze drying (also known as lyophilisation) is a method of drying products whereby the material is frozen to make it chemically inactive and then placed under vacuum while energy is added in the form of heat, so that the ice sublimates into gas, thus rendering the product stable at elevated temperatures.
Praxair's new ControLyo technology allows nucleation to be controlled by regulating the nucleation temperature to within 1C of its freezing point, improving product uniformity, quality and yield.
