Qualitative instrument for proteomics and drug development laboratories that want to improve the speed and accuracy of protein/metabolite identification
Applied Biosystems, together with its partner MDS Sciex, has recently launched the first high performance mass spectrometer to combine triple quadrupole and ion trap technologies in one platform.
The Q Trap LC/MS/MS system is an ideal qualitative instrument for proteomics and drug development laboratories that want to cost-effectively increase their productivity by improving the speed and accuracy of protein/metabolite identification.
The Q Trap system has been under evaluation at customer sites over the past eight months as part of an early access partnership programme.
Gerard Hopfgartner, professor of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry at the University of Geneva, said: "The new combined features of the Q Trap system bring a completely new approach to the way in which we can both characterise and quantify metabolites in discovery and early drug development research efforts.
The system is more robust, provides higher quality data, and minimises sample consumption, opening new doors for automated search and characterisation of metabolites in biological matrices." Another customer that has been using the Q Trap is Steven Carr, senior director of discovery technologies at Millenium Pharmaceuticals.
"The availability of additional scan functions on the Q Trap makes it a more versatile instrument then current 3-D ion traps for peptide and protein analysis," he explained.
