Significant improvements for proteomics and drug discovery, and especially useful for identifying and characterising low level drug and metabolite concentrations in biological samples
Applied Biosystems, together with its partner MDS Sciex, has released the latest system in its quadruple time-of-flight mass spectrometry series, the QStar XL LC/MS/MS system.
The QStar XL offers significant improvements for proteomics and drug discovery researchers alike, and is especially useful for identifying and characterising low level drug and metabolite concentrations in biological samples.
The new system is more sensitive, gives higher resolution and more accurate mass data, and is uniquely flexible, allowing researchers to switch easily between API and Maldi source techniques.
The new Maldi 2 ion source determines molecular weights from a wide variety of matrices without fragmentation and greater sensitivity means that the QStar XL is as useful for analysing larger intact proteins as it is for analysing low abundance proteins in complex samples.
Altogether, enhanced ion optics, a new detector and a novel scan function similar to that in the QTrap system, have all contributed towards creating an easy-to-use, rapid and reliable system for protein characterisation and drug metabolism studies.
