Maxine Taylor appointed as executive director of policy and communications at Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK has appointed Maxine Taylor as the charity's executive director of policy and communications. Taylor, who will take up the post in April, succeeds Professor Robert Souhami who retires at the end of March.
Currently a board director at Eli Lilly in the UK, one of the country's top pharmaceutical companies, Taylor has led corporate affairs for the business since January 2000.
With over 20 years' communications experience, she is a former director of marketing and communications at the British Heart Foundation and has held senior policy positions in the Cabinet Office and in the Office of the Government's Chief Scientific Adviser.
At Cancer Research UK, she will be responsible for 100 staff across four departments: Policy and Public Affairs, Cancer Information, Knowledge Management and Press and PR.
Professor Alex Markham, chief executive of Cancer Research UK, said: "We are delighted to appoint Maxine to this important role in the charity.
"She brings a wealth of expertise and experience from the private and charity sectors as well as government. "Policy and communications work plays a vital part in delivering our strategic objectives and working towards our vision to conquer cancer through world-class research". Maxine Taylor said: "I am looking forward to joining Cancer Research UK.
"The charity has an impressive track record in policy and communications and I'm looking forward to working with the team to build on those successes for the future".
