Company says it will be the only filtered air products manufacturer in the world to standardise on an anti-microbial finish
Labcaire has signed an exclusive contract with BioCote to use the company's patented anti-microbial technology across its entire product range.
The move, which makes Labcaire the only filtered air products manufacturer in the world to standardise on an anti-microbial finish, comes as one in ten patients are reported as having a hospital-acquired infection and at a time of increasing concern about the risks of cross-contamination.
Among the first products to incorporate the patented anti-microbial technology will be Labcaire's Autoscope range of endoscope washer disinfectors that are used in many hospitals worldwide. These units will arrive in the fourth quarter of this year along with a modified PCR cabinet for DNA analysis.
A rolling programme will then see Biocote's anti-microbial coating applied to all Labcaire's remaining laminar air flow units, biological safety cabinets, and recirculating fume cupboards.
"As an innovative designer of laminar air flow and carbon filtration units for clinical and laboratory environments around the world, we are delighted to offer Biocote's unique anti-microbial product solutions to our customers," says David Pomeroy, Labcaire's marketing director.
"This exclusive arrangement means that their choice of equipment can minimise the risk of cross-contamination and make a lasting impact in their working lives." Biocote's technology can be used to treat painted metal and polymer surfaces and provides an extra level of defence against microbial contamination by preventing cells from reproducing.
The active agents are incorporated during manufacture and are active for the life of the product.
An independent laboratory conducts rigorous validation and QC to ensure the anti-microbial performance of the treated materials.
