Research microscopes and digital cameras used for routine histology, special stains, immunology and cytology are proving popular because of the usefulness of the photographs
The Cellular Pathology Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading is making the most of research microscopes and digital cameras from Leica Microsystems to present results from the department.
Jan Gauntlett, head biomedical scientist, explained: "We use two Leica DM R research microscopes for routine histology, special stains, immunology and cytology material and also have three Leica DC 300 digital cameras." "We take photographs all the time because it is such a useful way to collect material." Photographic representation of tissues is proving especially useful at our multi-disciplinary clinical and pathology team meetings and for teaching purposes.
Our clinical director for pathology, Dr Leo Horton also uses a lot of photography for quality control schemes and training.
The picture quality really is excellent and people often comment on this in our meetings and presentations."
